Who is responsible
typesofpimples.com runs as an independent site and is responsible for the personal data this page describes. For anything about your data, write to privacy@typesofpimples.com.
What gets recorded
- Visit statistics: which pages you open, the page you came from, time on the page, how far you scroll, the links and buttons you click, and device details such as screen size, browser language and time zone.
- Your answers in the pimple key: worked out in your browser only. They are never sent to us; the type it finds only rides along in the analysis link if you click it.
- Server logs: our hosting provider logs IP addresses, browser types and requested addresses to keep the site safe and running.
How visits are counted
Your browser sends visit statistics to our own address, /api/seen-page. From there they are passed to an analytics provider (EU) that stores them inside the European Union. Your IP address is passed along so a rough location can be worked out. A random code kept in session storage links the pages of one visit; it disappears when you close the tab, so separate visits can't be tied together. No cookies are used for statistics. Visitors in the EU are only counted after they press "Allow".
Where the analysis button goes
"Start my analysis" and similar links go through typesofpimples.com/identify and on to acne.today, a separate paid service. The link tells acne.today which site and which button you came from, and the pimple type from the key if you used it. Whatever you share with acne.today, such as photos, answers or payment details, falls under its own privacy policy.
Legal grounds
- Statistics from visitors in the EU: your consent, which you can change at any time through "Statistics choice" at the bottom of the home page.
- Statistics from other visitors and server logs: our legitimate interest in a safe site that works well.
- Emails you send: to answer them.
What your browser keeps
| Name | Purpose | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| tyStat | Your answer to the statistics question. Local storage, never sent. | Until you clear it |
| tyTone | Light or dark mode, if you switch. Local storage. | Until you clear it |
| tyDock | Remembers that you hid the bottom bar. Session storage. | Until the tab closes |
| _tp_d, _tp_s, _tp_n, _tp_z | Random visit code and page count for statistics. Session storage, not a cookie. | Until the tab closes |
How long data is kept
Server logs: no more than 90 days. Emails: as long as it takes to help you, and two years at the most.
Who receives data
Only the analytics provider and our hosting provider, each limited to what it needs for its job. Data is never sold.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to receive a copy, to limit its use, or object to its use. Write to privacy@typesofpimples.com and you will get an answer within four weeks. You may also complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (the Dutch Data Protection Authority) or to the regulator where you live.
